What you will do:

  • Maintains an updated inventory (database) of all quality outcomes and reports to be utilized by hospital and medical staff throughout MercyOne - Sioux City.
  • Works with Decision Support analysts to prepare service line reports and unit-specific reports that include all relevant information relating to quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Acts as a liaison by interacting with representatives of the PRO, other external review agencies, third party payors and other health care facilities regarding Quality Services Data/Information. Serves as a System Administrator for the Q-Net Exchange (internet-based National Reporting Software Application) and Cart (CMS abstraction & Reporting Tool).
  • Provides assistance and coordination with key stakeholders and external organizations about measurement definitions, data requirements and clinical documentation opportunities to enhance core measure outcome reporting and revenue enhancement.
  • Collects (through ongoing auditing) and analyzes aggregate data to be used in benchmarking and/or identification of best practice and performance improvement efforts. This includes, but is not limited to: (1) The validation and reporting of Clinical Data/Information to external accrediting organizations (includes JCAHO, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Iowa Foundation for Medical Care (IFMC/QIO), and Trinity Health Services); (2) NDNQI (National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators) outcomes to meet requirements for attainment of Magnet status; (3) Hospital and Medical Staff Committees, including but not limited to the PI and Patient Safety Council, Quality Committee of the Board, Nursing Quality/PI/Patient Safety Council, etc., and Medical Staff Committees, Medical Staff Quality/Peer Review Committee, and Medical Staff Committees (i.e., Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Surgery Executive, Emergency Dept, etc.).
  • Participates in activities related to Medical Staff outcomes management and performance improvement, including:
  • The collection of clinical & utilization outcome indicators that measure the quality and appropriateness of patient care provided by members of the Medical Staff for Ongoing Professional Performance Evaluation (OPPE) and Focused Professional Performance Evaluation (FPPE) with timely reporting to support the Medical Staff credentialing, privileging, and reappointment processes;
  • The monitoring & reporting of required PI activities, including but not limited to: Anesthesia, Operative, Invasive and Non-invasive procedure review, and Blood Component Review
  • Participation in the Medical Staff Peer Review process and interaction with Medical Staff Department Chairs to facilitate timely reviews
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement as it relates to areas of high risk, high volume and/or problem prone areas; utilizes Lean and other continuous quality improvement methodologies to support and/or lead performance improvement teams designed to improve clinical outcomes.
  • Participates as necessary in initiatives/committees to ensure compliance with regulatory and accrediting body standards & regulations (i.e., Joint Commission, CMS, DIA, etc.) that pertain to the Quality/PI.
  • Is knowledgeable of and actively participates in improving patient safety and reducing risk to patients. Complies with Safety and Infection Control Policy & Procedure.

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or related field is required. Must be a registered nurse maintaining current licensure defined by Interstate Compact.
  • A minimum of three to five years of acute care clinical experience with strong medical/surgical background required.
  • Must have good working knowledge of the electronic medical record.
  • Experience in continuous quality improvement process and methodology, data analysis, and report generation preferred.
  • Knowledge of JCAHO and CMS quality initiatives, especially as it relates to external reporting, preferred.
  • Must be self-directed and motivated, exhibiting independence in function and judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and presentation skills and be able to communicate effectively with all members of the health care team.
  • Good working knowledge of database management, statistical methods and benchmarking techniques preferred.
  • Must be able to complete work under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects.
