Our agency is looking to fill a full-time, permanent Corrections Specialist 3 (CS3) vacancy within the Community Corrections Division. This position works for our Section 4 Graduated Reentry (GRE) Unit located at the Tacoma Community Justice Center (CJC), 1016 South 28th Street, Tacoma, WA 98409.
This position will monitor individuals who have committed a crime and have been approved to participate in the GRE Alternative as part of the Graduated Reentry Law Substitute House Bill (SHB) 2638. This includes working with families, community providers, employers, and other stakeholders from a case management and strengths perspective so that these individuals can better integrate into, and be productive members of their community.

DOC’s partnership with Amend works to bring a health-focused approach to providing correctional staff with additional tools and resources with an emphasis on staff wellness while working to prepare incarcerated individuals and residents to become better neighbors when they return to society.
Reintegration Reimagined: DOC Launches New Community Corrections Model
iCoach (individualized, community-oriented, accountability, collaborative help) launched on March 10, 2023. This new model is backed by the most recent science and is driven by two philosophies: Community Reintegration and Enhanced Supervision. iCoach provides more support and advocacy for those within the criminal justice system earlier in their reentry process.
- Monitor individuals who have committed a crime in the community and in accordance with Washington State law, rules and regulations, and agency policy within prescribed timeframes.
- Engage with individuals and community members to work towards positive change.
- Enforce supervision conditions and the law.
- Facilitate the requirements of SHB 2638 Graduated Reentry.
- Lead other Corrections Specialists.
- Other duties as assigned and necessary.
Required Qualifications
- Two years of experience as a Community Corrections Officer with the Washington State Department of Corrections.
- Must possess and maintain a vehicle operator's license in the state of Washington.
- A Bachelor's degree from a college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or the US Department of Education or foreign equivalent.

Three years of professional case management** experience in adult or juvenile corrections or closely related field that includes at least three of the following:
- Making field visits
- Writing reports
- Assessing cases and making recommendations
- Referring people to appropriate resources
- Presenting cases in court or hearings
- Two years of experience demonstrating collaboration with other private, non-profit, or state agencies.
- Must possess and maintain a vehicle operator's license in the state of Washington.
- A Master's degree in sociology, social work, psychology, criminology, or closely related field from an accredited institution.

- Salary is based on experience and is determined at the time an offer of employment is made. The salary listed in the job posting includes Steps A-M. Step M is a longevity step and is typically gained six years after being assigned to Step L in your permanent salary range.

This position may be allocated for telework for up to one day each week. If approved, work may be performed from your home or another offsite location within the state of Washington using a reliable internet or cellular hot spot service at that time. Employees are expected to perform assigned duties in a safe manner; to take proper care of all state-issued equipment; and maintain confidentiality of all information in possession while working offsite. Employees will be required to commute to a Department of Corrections facility or field office as business requires, to potentially include components of the onboarding process. Some offices will have a “drop in” area available, however, a dedicated workspace within a DOC facility may not be provided.
