The Dietetic Technician 2 responsibilities include collection and review of nutrition screening information for patient referral to a dietitian, monitoring for changes in nutritional status during admission, providing patients on a specialized diet program the opportunity to select menu items, assuring that nutritional restrictions and food preferences have been met, and completing nutrient intake analysis reports. Assists with counseling patients and family members on basic medical nutrition therapy per approved protocols and under the supervision of a Dietitian. Participates in training dietetic students and staff, and will attend clinical meetings, in-services, and area-specific meetings. Participates in weekend/holiday rotation. Performs other duties as needed.
Bachelors and/or Master's Degree in Food or Nutrition required, or Associate's Degree in Nutrition & Dietetics with Diet Technician Registration (DTR) certification from the Commission on Dietetic Registration. Minimum of one year experience preferred. Dietetic Technician, Registered (DTR) certification and Associate's Degree required in lieu of Bachelor's Degree. Food Handlers Certification required.
Knowledge of nutritional food values, meal planning and therapeutic menu processes. Able to operate calculator, computer, typewriter, copy machines, and telephone. Able to read; write legibly; speak in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer and software programs necessary to the position; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment. Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction. Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail. Able to distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place/patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.
