POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Digital Learning provides leadership and direction in the effective evaluation and use of instructional and operational technologies in support of teaching, learning, and research within the academic program. The Director of Digital Learning is a member of the Information Technology Services leadership team and reports to the Chief Information Officer. The position is housed in the Digital Learning Center and collaborates closely with the Library, and the Center for Teaching and Learning in delivering services to the campus community.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement strategies that leverage technology in support of the Colleges' educational goals.
  • Direct innovative projects, programs, and initiatives that blend digital resources with effective pedagogical strategies in a liberal arts environment.
  • Lead the Digital Learning Team staff and day-to-day operations of the unit.
  • Collaborate with faculty to identify areas of need related to their teaching and research.
  • Serve as primary liaison of Information Technology Services to the Provost and Office of Academic and Faculty Affairs.
  • Ensure quality standards for instructional technology are met, staying up-to-date on trends in instruction and technology.
  • Partner with faculty and students to align delivery of instructional technology services with institutional needs.
  • Manage curricular support requests with appropriate team resources.
  • Provide leadership in exploring, implementing, and evaluating the use of digital resources.
  • Develop and deliver programs, training, workshops, and resources which promote the use of digital media.
  • Oversee the administration of learning management tool(s) which support blended learning opportunities.
  • Coordinate and direct the Digital Learning team's activities toward the fulfillment of its mission and goals.
  • Supervise and manage the Digital Learning team along with assigned student workers, interns, and fellows.
  • Manage, track, and review multiple projects to ensure they align with service deliverables.
  • Create, deploy, and maintain digital tools, applications, and processes that integrate within the broader information technology ecosystem at the Colleges.
  • Work collaboratively with the IT Services Leadership Team to ensure shared governance and IT resource allocations.
  • Work collaboratively with the Learning Commons staff to fulfill educational needs and curricular goals.
  • Serve on the Faculty IT Committee and represent Information Technology Services on other related committees/groups, as appropriate.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and a commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • Act as the IT Services focal point related to faculty grant proposals and the Colleges' Grants Office.

Other Information:

This is a full-time, 12-month, benefits-eligible position. This position description is not all-inclusive, as other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned. Work hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during the academic year, with a possible shortened workweek during the scheduled summer hours time period.




Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree (minimum) / Master's or PhD (preferred) with experience in an educational or learning environment.
  • Superior communication skills with a focus on exceptional service delivery.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects/tasks, budgets, and timelines.
  • Clear understanding of curricular development, learning theories, and academic evaluation and assessment.
  • Demonstrated ability to bring creativity, enthusiasm, and vision in the use of digital resources.
  • Practitioner experiences as a team leader who can also work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong problem solving skills with a keen ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  • Five years experience working with digital learning/instructional technologies.
  • Five years experience with teaching and/or training, preferably in a higher education setting.
  • Supervisory experience required.
  • Knowledge and experience with both Windows and Macintosh platforms.
