Wastewater Grade II or Grade IV Operator - Environmental Services
Grade II: $20.61 - $28.53 per hour
Grade IV: $ 22.72 - $ 31.46 per hour
The purpose of this position is to perform specialized technical work associated with wastewater treatment plant operations and maintenance. Opening is for night shift with hours from 10:00pm - 6:30am Tuesday through Saturday.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
Monitor wastewater treatment plant processes and equipment using established procedures to ensure proper sewage treatment, sludge processing, and disposal in accordance with federal and state regulations. Monitor and inspect plant equipment for safety, maintenance, and proper process operations; performs repairs. Collect samples and conduct laboratory testing. Monitor and record plant data; prepares reports and maintain records. Grease and lubricate equipment; maintain adequate fuel levels. Add chemicals and/or microorganisms to wastewater and maintain correct ratios. Operate machinery, equipment, and tools which may include pumps, motors, generators, blowers, valves, and computers. Perform cleaning, repair, and maintenance tasks to keep the plant facilities, machinery, equipment, tools, and grounds in good working condition. Attend and participate in safety meetings; abide by safety protocols and help maintain a safe working environment for self and others. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of federal and state guidelines pertaining to wastewater treatment and environmental standards
Knowledge of City and Departmental policies, rules, and procedures
Knowledge of wastewater plant operations
Skill in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a wide variety of equipment
Ability to work independently
Ability to read and prepare reports
Ability to read and interpret meters, gauges, and laboratory equipment
Ability to operate and maintain plant equipment
Ability to read and follow procedural and operational manuals
Ability to perform manual labor outdoors under various weather conditions
Must be able to maintain good interpersonal relationships with staff, co-workers, and managers.
Must be able to be able to work nights and weekends
Minimum Qualifications
Required - High School Diploma/GED required, supplemented by coursework in chemistry, biology, mechanics, and/or mathematics; associate or bachelor"s degree preferred. Must possess and maintain a valid Alabama Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade II,III, or IV certification. Must possess and maintain a valid State driver"s license. Preferred - Associate"s or Bachelor"s degree preferred. Physical Requirements
Frequent sitting, walking, climbing or balancing, using hands to operate tools or controls, reaching with hands and arms; occasional standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking, and hearing. Up to 25 pounds frequently; up to 50 pounds occasionally. Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Extreme heat and cold, moving mechanical parts, fumes, odors, toxic chemicals, infectious diseases, risk of electric shock and vibration, and loud noise.
