Job description
SUMMARY:
The Learning & Development Specialist is a dedicated resource responsible for training, coaching, and developing employees on processes and job duties. The specialist is expected to understand safety procedures and SOPs. They are required to safely lead and develop employees in accordance with our Philosophy.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist and/or conduct NESO (New Hire Safety Orientation) and ensure smooth transition to on-the-job training
- Standardize training for every position (including salary)
- Regular review, writing, proofing, and revising training documentation (job instructions/standard work)
- Able to deploy a wide range of training methods (classroom training, workshops, simulations, video, web-based, e-learning and more)
- Tracks on the job training (OJT) records
- Assist and/or conduct monthly safety training
- Tracks safety training records
- Coordinate hands-on & skill evaluations for forklifts and cranes including recertification
- Train quality process and major defects
- Monitors Schoolhouse progress – train new hires on Schoolhouse process
- Review and update Schoolhouse - ensure the program is effective
- Ensure training record compliance
- Career development and progression outlined
- Analyzes training needs and cross training
- Evaluate employee progression to ensure competency and proficiency
- Maintain Versatility Matrix
- Owner of Mentorship Program
- Owner of Train the Trainer Program
- Develop & sustain Apprenticeship and Internship Programs
- Coordinates external training (i.e., Going Pro Grant in MI)
- Responsible for 30/60/90-day new hire check-ins
- Ensure new hires have proper IT access and tools to complete their job
- Evaluate high risk areas and assist the transformation group in the successful deployment of effective and sustainable improvement initiatives across plant operations
- Other duties as assigned
CRITICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
- Intermediate computer skills – MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint
- Familiarity with Learning Management System (LMS) and ability to learn how to create coordinate, schedule, and track training processes
- Good example to others and highly engaged and motivated
- Ability to interact in a positive manner with team members to achieve goals

- Exceptional understanding and ability to train to JI’s, SWI and SOP, and TWB expectations
- Solid knowledge of transformation principles
- Knowledgeable with document compliance and able to provide documents during internal and external audits (Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)/IATF 16949/ISO 9001)
- Strong facilitation skills with the ability to facilitate learning to a diverse audience with a variety of leadership and learning styles
EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIRED:
- TWB Leadership Training
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 3-5 years manufacturing experience required
