This position is scheduled to work Monday-Friday, 8:00AM-4:30PM and is located in South Burlington, VT (when in office). This position has on-site parking, no shuttling required.
This call center role will transition to “hybrid remote” (partially remote/partially in office) after a 90 day orientation period is successfully completed.
External candidates are eligible for a one-time signing bonus of $6,000 (prorated for part time role). The bonus will be paid out as a $1,000 gross pay adjustment following the completion of a successful 90-day orientation. After 6 months there will be a second payout of $2,000 with a final installment of $3,000 paid upon completion of one year (2,080 hours) of satisfactory service in the department hired into. Amounts reflect gross pay, prior to applicable tax withholdings and deductions required by law. Please note that current UVM Health Network employees are excluded from eligibility for this bonus. The Patient Access Specialist is a fundamental part of the patient experience and is a key contributor to the financial health of the organization. The Specialist coordinates scheduling, registration, insurance and payer eligibility management and financial screening activities to provide an exceptional customer service experience for patients, families and visitors. The incumbent navigates complex regulatory requirements while coordinating activities across multiple disparate information systems to support physician and hospital operations while delivering a caring message in a streamlined, transparent and cohesive process. The Specialist shall function independently, resolve patient and operational issues and effectively manage patient financial engagement while facilitating all aspects of the access experience to ensure the UVM Medical Center revenue cycle remains whole.

Associates degree or vocational training in a relevant area; a combination of education and experience may be substituted.

Requires a minimum of one year of experience in customer service, medical billing, coding, insurance or authorization, management, scheduling or work in a health care environment. Prior experience with medical billing preferred. Requires ability to diffuse angry customers and handle pressure with excellent verbal communication skills. Demonstrated experience dealing effectively and compassionately with sensitive situations.
