Summary of Duties:

The Postdoctoral Research Associate plays a vital role in advancing the mission and vision of the university by conducting scientific research in the laboratory of Dr. Jiyue Zhu in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. We are currently seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to join our research team in studying the mechanisms of human aging, melanoma development, and age-related degenerative diseases. Successful candidates should have a strong background in biology, biochemistry, and molecular genetics, as well as experience working with laboratory mouse models or a willingness to learn.

The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for designing and conducting experiments to investigate the genetic and molecular basis of human aging and age-related diseases, including cancer. These projects will involve the use of our unique and state-of-the-art mouse model with humanized telomeres, which accurately recapitulates the human telomere length homeostasis system. The fellow will work collaboratively with other members of the research team and have the opportunity to develop and lead independent research projects.

This recruitment may be used to fill multiple positions.

Essential Duties:

Specific responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
  • Design and carry out experiments alongside PI, laboratory personnel, and other collaborators.
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data to determine research outcomes.
  • Write and edit manuscripts for publication.
  • Prepare applications for research grants.
  • Train other lab members on appropriate rules, regulations, and protocols.

Required Qualifications:
  • Recent Ph.D. degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology, animal sciences, or a related field.

Additional Qualifications:
  • Significant biomedical research experience as demonstrated by first-author publication(s) in internationally recognized, peer-reviewed journals.
  • Knowledge and experiences in cellular and molecular biology, genetics, pathophysiology, and/or genomics/epigenomics.
  • Required technical skills include cell culture, Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, immunoprecipitation, quantitative RT-PCR, and animal models.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated, work independently, and have strong scientific English language skills.
  • Experience in working with experimental mice.

Annual Salary: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00; commensurate with qualifications and experience.

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Temporary End Date: This is a temporary position expected to end one year after the start date. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.
