About the role
We are looking for an Underground Survey Specialist to provide safe leadership, guidance, and assurance to the Underground Technical Services Survey team and outputs.
Working 4 weeks on and 2 weeks off International FIFO roster and reporting to the Superintendent Survey, you will be:
- A key leader within the underground survey team structure responsible for assisting in managing the survey team
- Regular underground inspections and quality checks on survey work and team
- Ensure the underground control network is accurate, regularly check surveyed and compliant
- Ensuring all survey work is completed in a timely and accurate manner to ensure no disruption to the mine operations
- Ensuring all reporting is accurate and timely, including EOM, Boretrak and other reports required
- Responsible to check all MCA and MDA design that will be integrated for execution of the mine
- Ensuring all SWPs and procedures are written and up to date and reviewed
What you will bring
- Degree in Mining Surveying and Geodesy or relevant qualification
- Experience typically achieved through graduate qualifications and 5+ years relevant experience
- Underground surveying experience, block cave mining experience highly desirable
- Expert in the area of operations mine surveying/ drafting and keeps abreast of all technological advancements in techniques and equipment
- Defines strategic plans for surveying and drafting teams to support operations mine operations
- Promotes a culture of safety where team members take responsibility for their own and others’ safety
- 3D computer drafting software such as AutoCAD, Surpac, Deswik, Compnet, Move3
- Microsoft Excel and Office suite skills
It will also be beneficial if you have:
- Experience with managing technical projects in a mining operation
- Experience with training, mentoring and coaching other employees
- Previous overseas work experience

Where you’ll be working
Oyu Tolgoi is an operating Copper / Gold open pit mine with a brownfields underground mining project. The site is located in the Gobi Desert region of Mongolia. The reserves case for the underground project is in the order of 0.5 billion tonnes of ore to be mined from the 95,000 tonnes per day Hugo North Lift 1 (HNL1) panel cave mine with a 20-year operations life. There is also the potential for 3 further block cave districts to increase mine life beyond 100 years.
